Over time, one of the challenges with SiC heating elements is the gradual increase in electrical resistance—a process known as aging. As elements operate, their internal microstructure changes, leading to higher resistivity and reduced power output for the same voltage input. This change needs to be considered during furnace design and maintenance planning. However, modern SiC elements are designed to age slowly and predictably, and many furnaces incorporate variable voltage power supplies to compensate for this natural drift.
